Crispus Attucks is remembered as the first African American to die in a colonist's fight against the British called the Boston Massacre. He was a slave who managed to escape from slavery, but nothing else was known about him .He was part of a angry mob against 8 British soldiers. Then the soldiers started to worry so one of the soldiers shot him and 4 others.

Attucks was born on 1723 in Framingham, Massachusetts to parents who were also slaves. His father was brought to America to Africa as a slave and his mom was Nantucket Indian who was also forced into slavery.Crispus had two siblings. His older sister named Phebe and a younger brother who died from a fever when Attucks was only seven years! They received no education because their master knew education would lead to rebellion.

Young Crispus knew he was a slave. He began slacking on his daily duties just so he would be able to daydream when he would be free someday.

Crispus Attucks led a group of 60 patriots toward King Street. They stood in front of Captain Thomas Preston and his eight troops.Muskets and Bayonets were drawn as Crispus and his followers threw sticks and rocks at the soldiers.

  • He was born in Circa 1723
  • His dad, Prince was from Africa and brought America as a slave.
  • His mom, Nancy was a slave of Indian descent.
  • He was sold to Deacon William Brown when he was sixteen.
  • He was 6 feet and 2 inches tall

Crispus Attucks continues to be honored by the American public. In 1998,to celebrate the 275th anniversary of his birth, the US Mint issued a silver dollar coin in honor of his bravery.A variety of schools, children centers, foundations and museums are named after him representing the heroism of a black man looking for freedom.

As a man of African descent, he became part of the Anti-Slavery Movement in the nineteenth century as a hero who stood up and risked his life by defending his rights.Since he was a slave living at Framingham, Massachusetts developed his appreciation of freedom. At age 27 he ran away from his Master William Brown.

  • How did you feel about slavery?
  • How does it feel to be an African American Hero of the Boston Massacre?
  • Do you feel that your bravery paid off later into the future?

Crispus Attucks inspired me because he stood up for himself,

risked his life to put an end to slavery. He had a rough life and he didn't want not one person have to go through the same thing. His bravery did pay off because slavery did become illegal later on in the future.
