The big names of Art Deco film era

Fashion

the silent movie era

  • Laurel & Hardy
  • Charlie Chaplin

What were the films like?

What was life like then

everyone wore the coulours of black white and silver but what extra things did they add to make look that bit better in the film, clinging white satin, ball gowns, fanciful feathers and lavish lobbies.

Some these were -

Dinner at eight,Grand Hotel,The Dark Angel,Way down East, the Three Musketeers,The Thief of Bagdad Swedish Spinx and the Great Gatsby

  • They were very different then
  • The Cinema was called the Picture Palace
  • The picture palaces held up to two thousand people. This is unlike today where film is not as popular as we have so much more choice for our entertainment
  • In the 1920s all films were in black and white colour.
  • Then by the 1930s the colour improved to include silver colour.
  • People in that time had the picture palace as entertainment to experience learn about the life they otherwise did not know.
  • The economy was in a bad state so people could only dream and the picture palace let you get lost in your dreams for a few hours.
  • Back then people got excited when the new releases from Hollywood came out and could not wait to queue to see them on the big screen.
