Summary of the Battle

The Axis officer

The Battle of Midway was one of the most important naval battles of World War 2. June 4-7, 1942, only 6 months after the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor the United States defeated an attack against the Imperial Japanese Navy.The United States did a lot f damage on the Japanese fleet. Military historians called it " the most stunning and decisive blow to the history of naval warfare." It was Japans worst naval defeat in about 350 years.

Navy was Isoroku Yamamoto.

Isoroku Yamamoto was a Marshal Admiral in

the Japanese Imperial Navy in WW2 at the Battle of Midway. he was a graduate of the Japanese Naval Academy. He was also led the attacks on pearl. Yamamoto was killed in 1943 when the U.S. his flight plans.

  • Lives Lost: America lost 307 soldiers, and Japan lost 3,057 soldiers.
  • Results of the Battle: America lost 1 carrier, 1 destroyer, and 150 aircraft. Japan lost 4 carriers, 1 cruiser, and 248 aircraft destroyed.
  • The long term consequences: It was the first major victory againt Japan. It paved the way to Guadalcanal. It made time for the allies to build their fleet.

Chester W. Nimitz- born Feb. 24, 1885 in Texas.

  • Died Feb. 20, 1966 in california.
  • He was a dual commander in many Battles and was in the U.S. Navy.
  • He was in Service from 1905-1966.
  • Frank Jack Fletche- Born April 29, 1885.
  • April 25, 1973. Also was appart of the U.S Navy. He was in 10 battles/wars during his 41 years of service. He led many of these alone but also was a dual commander.
  • Raymond A. Spruance- Born July 3, 1886.
  • Died December 13, 1969.
  • He was a United States Navy admiral in World War II.
  • He commanded US naval forces during 2 of the most significant naval battles that took place- The Battle of Midway and The Battle of the Philippine Sea
