Writing an Article

What is an article?

Articles are usually found....

An article is a formal piece of writing to inform readers of something.

in Newspapers and Magazines

HEADLINE-

Short, Snappy 4 to 5 Words, gives an idea of what the article is about

Gives more information on the topic to be written about / splits the article up

Sub-heading-

name of author/ writer

Byline-

Language Features

Introduction, Body, Conclusion

Writing in columns is used to break up the text and therefore makes it easier to read.

Also the main points of each paragraph can be picked out much quicker, as columns make it easier to scan for information.

Adjectives: describing words

Introductory Paragraph-

summary of article or main points

(usually includes Who? What? Where? and When?)

Body-

-Supporting paragraphs (usually include Why? and How?)

-May include facts and figures to support your opinions

-May persuade the reader to agree with your views

-May include quotes from experts and witnesses (in "speech marks")

eg. fabulous, heartbreaking, scandalous

Caption-

explains the image

Conclusion-

sum up the main ideas in the article, or come to a conclusion

WHO? WHAT? WHERE? WHEN? WHY? (HOW?)

Connectives are linking or joining words.

eg. however, although, therefore, nevertheless, furthermore, finally...
