Plant Genome for "Arabidopsis thaliana" sequenced.
Agriculture Timeline
In 1904 Holt invented the first Tractor called the Caterpillar. The Caterpillar was used by the British and French during World War 1.
1914
Arabidopsis thaliana was the first plant to be completely sequenced. Arabidopsis is a popular model organism to study in plant biology and genetics. the full sequence creates a much deeper understanding of the plant and environmental responses.
2000
The Smith Lever Act, established by the Extension Service, provides federal funds for cooperative extension programs. The Smith Lever Act was introduced by Senator Hoke Smith Of Georgia and Representative A.F Lever Of South Carolina.
1850
1837
The Steel Moldboard plow.
Golden rice is produced though genetic engineering. Golden rice was created by transforming rice with only two beta-carotene biosynthesis genes.
John Deere was the inventor of the first steel mold-board plow. This plow helped to improve the soil conditions by cutting through the tough soil. Its nick-name was the "grasshopper plow".
1933
1862
Edmond Quincy invented the corn picker in 1850. By the early 1900's his machine was forgotten.
1834
Cyrus McCormick invents the mechanical grain reaper.
The bill was established by Abraham Lincoln on July 2. The Land Grant College Act has improved the lives of a million Americans. The Land Grant Act was a major boost to higher education.
Shull played an important role in the development of the Hybrid Corn. Shull was awarded the Public Welfare Medal for his work on maize. Shull knew a lot about corn and Hybrid at an early age.
Cyrus McCormicks' grain reaper was patented in 1834. His mechanical invention allowed farmers to more than double their crop size. His ready to assemble machinery was very successful.
1997
Dolly the sheep was cloned

Agriculture Timeline from 1793-1990
Mendel discovers Heredity Information.
1814/1819
The Cast Iron Plow Patented.
1980
Dolly was the first to be cloned from an adult somatic cell. Dolly is one of the worlds most famous sheep. Dolly was cloned at the Roslin Institute in Midlothian, Scotland.
U.S Supreme Court Ruling-Patenting Genetically Altered Life Forms.
Mendel was the scientist who discovered Heredity Information. Mendelian Inheritance is the inheritance of certain traits like pea plants that follow a certain patterns.
Jethro Woods had two patents, one in 1814 and another in 1819. His plow had three separate parts so a section could be replaced if broken.
Jethro Woods was an inventor and blacksmith from New York. He invented the cast iron plow.
2000
The U.S Supreme Court in Diamond v.s. Chakrabarty rules that Genetically Altered Life Forms can be patented. The decision allowed the Exxon Oil Company to patent an oil-eating microorganism. The Supreme court decision in Diamond V.S Chakrabarty states that a man made microorganism is patentable.
USDA Publishes standards and official seal for organic products
1793
Eli Whitney invented the cotton gin
The National Organic Standards were unveiled in December 2000. The NOS was created to prevent fraud and mislabeling products and to standardize organic production.
1994
1878
Farmers begin using Satellite technology.
The Milking Machine Invented
The cotton gin picked the fibers from the cotton plant. It did the work of a hundred men!
The cotton gin picked the fibers from the cotton plant. It did the work of a hundred men!
Eli Whitney was an inventor, a mechanical engineer and a manufacturer but he is best known for his invention of the cotton gin. He graduated from Yale in 1792.
1990
Chymosin was introduced in food supply.
The Milking Machine was invented in 1878 by Anna Baldwin. The Milking Machine consists of hoses, cups, and a pulsator. The milk would then flow through a tube into a pail or pipeline.
In 1994, farmers began using satellite technology to track and plan farming. This is called Precision Agriculture. Farmers can use a GPS to see what areas need treating and what areas might need more water.
Chymosin is a protein and is also an enzyme. Chymosin was the first food product of genetic engineering. Chymosin is used in the making of cheese.
1992
FDA ruling that Genetically Engineered Foods are ''Not Inherently Dangerous''
1992
Flav-R-Saver Tomato Introduced
The FDA has been studying genetically modification techniques for drug development and new foods. In 1992 the FDA ruled against requiring labels for genetically engineered foods. The FDA announces that transgenic foods are not dangerous and they don't require any special rules or regulations.
The Flav-R-Saver Tomato was the first genetically engineered crop product to be commercialized. In 1994 Slavers tomato was sold. Flavr was well know for his tomato.
