The Cape Serval

Reason for Extinction

The number one reason for the Cape Serval's extinction is the fact that they were being hunted for their coats and in certain areas their meat. Also the over-population of humans more than likely played a big role in their extinction because the Servals began to lose their habitat

Niche

Interesting Facts:

  • Servals can jump up to 10 ft. in the air and change direction midair, even at full speed.

  • Go out to hunt between 10 o'clock and 12 at night & 4 o'clock and 5 in the morning
  • Have the biggest ears and legs to body ratio of any cat

Servals are important small-hunters that eat a wide variety of smaller prey such as birds, rodents, fish, etc. They are extremely important in balancing an ecosystem because they help take care of over populated species such as rodents that pose a direct threat to the environment and agricultural crops.
