Major Editing Techniques Utilized

Time Remapping/Use of Subjective Time

End

- Used mainly to demonstrate the Flash’s speed/relative to Superman

- Superman’s speed relative to that of the team.

Any Thoughts or Criticism of the Scene?

Shot Selection

-Quick Cuts - Used to maintain pacing, shows the urgency of the scene, and the emotional state of the characters

-Long Takes - Used mainly towards the end of the scene to juxtapose Superman’s emotional states - in the end, he’s more relaxed/more at peace upon finding Lois Lane

-POV Shots - Mainly used to show Superman’s perspective (X-Ray Vision), viewing the emotional state of other characters, shows the divide between Superman and the League

The Purpose of the "Superman Returns" Scene

-The tail end of the second act of the film

-The Return of Superman

-Shows Superman’s power, relative to the rest of the Justice League

-Begins to establish Superman’s interpersonal connections (i.e. Lois Lane)

Sound Design

-Mostly Subtle, mainly noticeable in the form of sound effects - flight, quick movements, etc.

-Soundtrack flows with action of the scene

Color Correction and Visual Effects

-Scene (More Apparent at the End) is heavily saturated compared to the rest of the film prior to this scene, shows a “hopeful” essence - despite Superman’s altered mental state, this is supposed to be a turning point for the characters

-CGI/Keying - Almost everything seen in background is computer generated, as is part of Henry Cavill’s face (Moustachegate)

-Visual Effects also apparent in a number of foreground shots - Flash's Lightning, Wonder Woman's Lasso, Cyborg's entire body, etc.
