- Consistency with assessment each year
Assessment Project
I chose to create an assessment plan for the effectiveness of parent engagement on student's academic success.
- Conduct assessment 2x per year (Spring and Fall)
- Parent involvement measured by frequency of contact between staff and parent(s)
- 3 subject questionnaire to assess engagement
-based on National Parent Teacher Association standards: support success through collaboration
- Questionnaire serves as "parent voice" and provides feedback
- Where: Widener Partnership Charter School
- Who: Grades K-5, 170 parents (4-5 are active: 2%)
- Need: 24% parent engagement OR about 40 parents
- Why: Connected to Job Description & School Mission
- Purpose:
1. Increase communication and cooperation between the parents and schools through formal assessment
2. Identify barriers and challenges to parental engagement in student's academic progress.
SUCCESS DEFINED
Based on:
1. Attendance
2.Grade Point Average
3.Behavior
THIS MATTERS
- Parent engagement greatly contributes to student's academic progress (Michigan DOE)
- When parents are involved students produce higher grades, test scores, increased motivation/self-esteem, decrease in detrimental behaviors (National Parent Teacher Association)
