From 1931 to 2017, only one territory and one province joined the confederation (Newfoundland + Labrador, and Nunavut).
The choice for full legal freedom was offered except in those areas in which they chose to remain subordinate to Britain.

Even though the statute forbade any changes with the BNA act, it was later amended by the constitution act of 1982.

Ever since the treaty of Paris, Britain was in almost complete authority over Canada.
Canada got its official independence in 1867.
Despite this, laws that were to be enforced in Canada required British ratification.
But Canada's Day of Independence was in July 1st of 1867...
That is true, however, as Joel Ralph stated in his article, Canada did not enjoy full legal autonomy until the statute was established in 1931.

Most of Britain's colonies were seen as "dependent" to Britain, therefore looked weaker by other nations.
Imperial conference of 1926 and the Balfour report was where the idea of the statute began.
Canada fought bravely in the first world war,
despite being ill-prepared.
Full autonomy and true independence was demanded from Robert Borden, Mackenzie King, Sam Hughes and other Canadians.
Skelton, the Head of the Department of External Affairs, demanded for Canada's official independence, and was present in signing the Statute.
