Literary Illusion

Allusion has been used when Mr. Burns was in the helicopter and said “Taking an idea I got from a Stephen King book, I’m going to cover this town with a dome!” while holding the 'Under the Dome' novel.

Parody

In its entirety the movie 'Under the Simpsons Dome' is a parody of the American drama series 'Under the Dome'

Mr Burns making reference to the novel

The writers have made this connection to create an intertextual link with with the Stephen King 'Under the Dome' novel. They have made this reference to give credit to the author of the original text so that the viewers will also have a connection if they have read the novel or watched the TV series.

Simpsons version

TV series

Under the Simpsons Dome

'Under the Dome' is a science fiction novel by Stephen King published in November 2009, that was adapted into a TV series, and later the Simpsons created a movie called 'Under the Simpsons Dome' which a parody of the TV series.

Adaptation

Hypothesis

Adaptation has been used when Colin wrote a song for Lisa which he performed with his guitar, but unfortunately Lisa could not hear it due to the Dome's thick glass walls so he wrote the notes on the and 'Lisa's Song' on the Dome walls so that she would know what the song would sound like and they put their hands together on either side of the dome walls.

The Simpsons 'Under the Dome' parody uses types of intertextual links such as adaptation, literary illusion and parody to engage with audiences from a range of ages and culture.

Linda and Barbie

Lisa and Collin

The writers have recreated the scene from the TV series when Linda and Barbie put their hands together on either side of the dome walls and said that they couldn't hear each other, but have changed it to adapt to the traits of the characters of Lisa and Collin. This has been done because Lisa and and Collins are both musically inclined characters and used that to represent Lisa not being able to hear the music due the the dome walls.
