- Viewed any expansionism or colonization as an act of aggression and thus promoting U.S. intervention.

The Roosevelt Corollary

The Truman Doctrine

- The Roosevelt Corollary was inspired by the Monroe Doctrine but was more aggressive.

- America was a stronger country coming into the 20th century and allowed it to become a "police" of other countries.

-Was prompted by the Venezuela Conflict.

- Protected any country in the western hemisphere from their creditors from invasion.

- Was established in 1947.

- Was promoted by the Greek Civil War and Britain's involvement.

- In the words of Truman, "the United States was compelled to assist “free peoples” in their struggles against “totalitarian regimes,” because the spread of authoritarianism would “undermine the foundations of international peace and hence the security of the United States.” It became “the policy of the United States to support free peoples who are resisting attempted subjugation by armed minorities or by outside pressures.”
