Big Idea: Life is more than stuff
- I want that or must have it
- instead of being grateful, shift focus onto what you don't have
- compromising values for more
- Focus on me instead of others
- Ignore people or causes you can give to
- Out to get something for nothing
- Borrow from future to get now
- Justify why you can't give
Greed=a strong, selfish desire or craving to have more & more at any cost...a heart desire to want more...to have what you cannot have.
How to Kill Greed in my Life?
1. Guard against Greed--vs.15
Watch out=concern yourself with the greed in your life
Guard=to hold someone in close custody.
Mark 7:21--for it is from within, out of a man's heart that evil thoughts come...greed
3. Know Greed is a Loser--vs.20
Replacements for Greed
Greed always loses...it never once wins
Give--go through your stuff and give it away...to those in need...to your church, etc.
Greed not rich towards anything except itself
Live Simply--by seeking God's kingdom 1st not your own
Learn contentment--Read Phil.4:10-13
Why Greed is so dangerous
Be Killing Sin or it be killing you
- It's idolatry=heart desires more than God (Col.3:5 Eph.5:3)
- It's a root sin (1 Tim.6:9-10)
1 Tim.6--The love of money is a root of all sorts of evil and by craving it, some have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.
Ex.20:17--You shall not covet your neighbours house, wife, animal, or anything that belongs to your neighbour.
1 Cor.6:9-10 Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived...neither...the greedy...will inherit the kingdom of God.
Col.3:5--put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry.
Eph.5:3--Every sexually immoral or impure or greedy person who is an idolater, does not have an inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.
Romans 6:14--For sin shall not be your master, because you are not under law, but under grace
