The Definition of Disability
Disability is a physical or mental handicap, especially one that prevents a person from living a full, normal life or from holding a gainful job.
The Media
Do you think that a person with a disability will
get a job as an artist in music or in acting as easily as a person with out a disability? Look at the following 2 pictures.
Here is a well known actor from Glee. He plays a disabled person in the series. But is he really disabled?
Law and Regulations
These are rules which employers are not allowed to do....
•treat a disabled person less favourably because the person has a disability - this is known as 'direct discrimination'
•indirectly discriminate against a disabled person, unless there is a fair and balanced reason for this
•directly discriminate against, or harass a person because they are associated with a disabled person
•directly discriminate against or harass a person who is wrongly thought to be disabled
•victimise anyone
Attitudes
There are many attitudes towards disability here
are just a few
- In 1942 when the 2nd world war was happening
the nazis where killing milli0ns of jews and even if they werent jews but they had a disability they would still be killed.
- In 2012 people with a disabilitys are still being treated with disrespect. E.g. people are teasing them, pointing, laughing and overall treating them differently.
Making Life Better for Disabled People
You can make life better for disabled people by making ramps next to stairs, priority spaces in buses, not laughing and making them feel like us and make their life easier.
Disability
• Help people before they have big problems with
their mental health.

equally with everyone else.

themselves.
