  • Kennedy learned that the CIA was training about 1,500 Cuban exiles in Central America to invade Cuba.
  • Eisenhower was doing this in hopes of overthrowing Cuba's dictator Fidel Castro.
  • The invasion was a disaster according to the New York Times
  • Kennedy denied the story and the invasion began.
  • Castro was prepared and ready.
  • The US had some misfires and Kennedy had to cancel additional air strikes.

  • This invasion did not eliminate the threat of communism to the US. It helped Castro with his ties to the Soviet Union (it made them stronger)

On 22 November 1963, President John F. Kennedy was a passenger in a motorcade through the centre of Dallas, Texas. At about 12:30pm, the motorcade was in Dealey Plaza, just outside the downtown area, when several gunshots were fired.

Altogether, three people were injured:

President Kennedy was wounded in the back and the throat, and, fatally, in the head.

The governor of Texas, John Connally, who was sitting directly in front of Kennedy, sustained three wounds: one bullet hit him in the back, destroyed four inches of one rib, punctured his right lung, and came out of the right side of his chest; his right wrist was shattered;

and a fragment of a bullet was embedded in his left thigh.
