Welcome to Year 6

A Very Special Year...

Your child's last year in primary school!

Waited as long as 7 or 8 years to become the oldest in our school!

Responsibility - Leaders:

Role models means high expectations of behaviour and standards

There'll be fallouts and hurdles: it's an opportunity to grow and mature emotionally, in a positive way.

General Reminders

Externally tested in several areas:

  • Arithmetic
  • Maths Problem Solving and Reasoning (2 tests)
  • Grammar, Punctuation and Spelling (2 tests)
  • Reading

Internally Assessed in Writing (final judgements made by the Teaching staff in June) - no test. This writing must be completely independent, including application of Grammar, Punctuation & Spelling and consistent, clear cursive handwriting.

Why? Directly informs KS3 targets & class organisation (sets)

Commitment to continuous home learning, revising knowledge and practising skills is vital to success & confidence when transitioning to High School

15.20 arrangements - Encouraging Independence & Mobile Phones remain with the adult and switched off until off site

Label all items of clothing (you'll be surprised; it's particularly interesting when we go swimming!)

P.E kits - to be worn on Fridays and can include tracksuit bottoms in the colder months

Learning Outside The Classroom

In a normal school year, we would be taking lots of school trips. We intend on making the trips listed below, though (given the current circumstances) we are having to work with our venues to establish enhanced safe risk assessments; some are still not currently accepting school visits. As soon as we have any confirmed dates, we will communicate them to parents.
