During the late 1900's, Pop music seemed to include a lot more Rock'n'Roll music than we tend to find within modern day Pop Music. Nowadays, Rock and Roll music has its own genre of Rock Music. Pop music back then was dominated mainly by Males artists with few female artists being introduced until around the 1980's. As Pop music has evolved, we have also seen genders equalise and therefore now both Male and Female artists dominate Pop Music and Music Charts.
- Pop Music is a term which abbreviates the term "Popular Music" which originated in its modern form in the 1950s, deriving from rock and roll.
- The term "pop song" is first recorded as being used in 1926, in the sense of a piece of music "having popular appeal".
- Pop has been known to have a special meaning of non-classical music, originally in the form of songs performed by artists such as The Beatles, The Rolling Stones and ABBA.
- When the term "Pop Music" was first invented, it was contemplated with being called "Beat Music" in England whilst in the USA the comparison between that of pop music and rock and roll music meant the 2 terms overlapped.

- As Pop Music is an abbreviation of Popular Music, this means all pop music is created with the intention of appealing to a wide audience of all ages and genders.
- Nowadays, Pop Music is influenced by the likes of bands such as One Direction, Katy Perry and Lady Gaga. Therefore, one main target audience of pop music for this generation would be teenagers as they are most likely to listen to chart music.
