How Zimbabwe was colonized and created

1922 BSA ends and the white minority opts for self governing.

Cecil Rhodes' British South Africa Company (BSA) gets a British mandate to colonize will become Southern Rhodesia.

Cecil Rhodes was a british man who sought to explore and trade with southern Africa. He led british explorers up through South Africa. Also during 1200-1600, Rise and decline of the Monomotapa domain, thought to have also been associated with "Great Zimbabwe" and to have been involved in some gold mining and trading internationally.

After many years of fighting and debating with different countries and people, Zimbabwe finally gains indepence. Veteran pro-independence leader Robert Mugabe and his Zanu party win independence electionssupervised by British. Robert Mugabe is named prime minister and places Zapu leader Joshua Nkomo in his cabinet. Independence on April 18 is internationally recognized.

Land Apportionment and more opposition

Traders and hunters explore the area/region from the south, and the Ndebele people flee the area because of Zulu violence. Boer migration in what is now South Africa move north and settle in what will become known as Matabeleland. "Boer" refers to german or similar descent.

White settlers arrive from the south at the site of the to-be capital, Harare.

Also, the Ndebele people form an uprising against the BSA, but are hopelessly crushed by the british.

The Land Apportionment Act of 1930 restricts black access to a lot of land. This basically draws a line around white people to fend off anyone of color. This creates more opposition to the white rule. Following 1930, the Opposition grows, and eventually, nationalist groups form Zimbabwe African People's Union (ZAPU) and Zimbabwe African National Union (ZANU).
