The Call to Adventure

Return with the Elixir

Compare and Contrast :Difference between Film and Novel

The Road Back

Gladers are the elixir, going on to the next trial to find a cure for the worldwide catastrophe: The Scorch

In the book, Minho and Thomas discover a hidden griever entrance but don't realize it's importance til much later. In the film, it immediately opens a locked entrance leading to the escape plan

Thomas, the hero, begins to remember his past almost immediately in the film but it takes time in the book

Thomas and Teresa, in the book, communicate, at times, telepathically. This was non existent in the film.

Greenie wants to leave-go into the Maze

Ordinary world is static but unstable (Vogler 99)

In the film, Alby and Thomas get along better than in the book. In the film, Alby takes a sort of mentor role but in the book he is antagonistic towards Thomas.

The maze is constructed differently and different sections of the mazes open up. The keys and codes are different as well.

Helicopter picks up Gladers

Hero

WICKED was not completely destroyed, it was a farce. (Vogler 190)

Gally attempts to become the leader of the Glade after Alby'sath in the novel but it doesn't happen in the film.

Trickster, Ally, and Shapeshifter

Thomas

  • Eager for adventure
  • Growth
  • Self Sacrifice (Vogler 29)

Theresa

  • Knows Thomas' name
  • Female counterpart
  • Not sure if enemy or friend (Vogler 59)

When the grievers get out the maze they attack viciously and chaotically in the book. In the film, they take one boy a night.
