Award ceremony 2015 highlights

In memory of late Bruce Rappaport marking 5 years since he passed away and the tenth anniversary of the Rappaport Art prize

The Bruce and Ruth Rappaport Foundation

About Us

The Bruce and Ruth Rappaport Foundation serves as the primary philanthropic vehicle for the vision of Ruth and the late Bruce Rappaport. For over 30 years, the Rappaports have been donating tens of millions of dollars to the Faculty of Medicine named in their honor at the Technion in Haifa. In addition, the Foundation provides funding to the Rappaport Institute for Biomedical Research in Haifa, the Tel Aviv Museum of Art, the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra and numerous other cultural institutions. For the past six years, the Foundation has contributed substantial resources towards the establishment of the Ruth Rappaport Children's Hospital at The Rambam Medical Center in Haifa. The hospital, opened in 2014, is Israel’s acclaimed, dramatically designed pediatric medical center.

About ten years ago, the Foundation inaugurated the Rappaport Prize, which today is awarded in three areas:

Art (in association with the Tel Aviv Museum of Art), Biomedical Research (in association with the Rappaport Institute at the Technion) and Women Generating Change in the Israeli society (in association with 'La’Isha' women’s magazine).

The Bruce and Ruth Rappaport Foundation prizes are the live expression of the true legacy of Bruce zal and Ruth. First the three subjects of the prize, art and culture, bio scientific research, and women making a change in Israeli society, are the three parameters representing the essence of the Rappaport family vision. Choosing in every one of the prizes an accomplished person and a young person emphasizes their belief that the senior laureates have a duty to teach, mentor and support the younger ones, while they also have the privilege of learning from them. The duality of this is the promise of sustainability for generations to come.

The Rappaport Prize for Israeli Artists

The Awards Ceremony

In 2006, The Bruce and Ruth Rappaport Foundation established a prize which would award a grant to one established Israeli artist and one young Israeli artist annually.

The purpose of this Prize is to encourage young artists to inject contemporary art with innovative ideas and entice the Israeli public to explore Israel’s creative potential. Every year, the Tel Aviv Museum of Art holds a solo exhibition of the previous year’s laureates, each of whom undertakes to donate one piece to the Ruth and Bruce Rappaport Collection of Israeli Art. On 2017, the Rappaports’ award collection will be displayed at an exhibition in the Museum.

Every year in mid-March, around the birth date of the late Mr. Bruce Rappaport, the Rappaport Prize Awards Ceremony is held at the Tel Aviv Museum of Art. The prizes are awarded by Mrs. Ruth Rappaport and their daughters, together with representatives of their various partner organizations, the Tel Aviv Museum of Art, the Rappaport Institute and 'La’Isha' women’s magazine, and with the panels of judges for the different prize categories. The prestigious guest list includes the laureates and their families, representatives of the prize committees, and friends and members of the Rappaport family. The Awards Ceremony brings together three very different categories of endeavors and salutes the accomplishment, sensibility and creativity recognized by the awards. It is a dignified event that affords guests a closer look at the world of the laureates and their achievements.

Rappaport Prize for Biomedical Research

The Rappaport Prize for Excellence in the field of Biomedical Research is awarded annually to scientists for excellent, groundbreaking or innovative research which has the potential to advance the health of mankind and benefit people worldwide. In addition, the research must have real and applicable therapeutic implications for human welfare.

The Prize is intended to enable scientists to devote themselves to their work, and to encourage them to undertake scientific and clinical research that could significantly advance a specific medical field.
