Competence is having the necessary ability, knowledge, or skill to do something successfully.

"I know something so well I don't have to think about it."

Your skills become second nature to you.

"I know something, but I have to think about it as I do it."

You are aware or conscious that you know something, but applying it has not yet become a habit.

"I don't know that I don't know something."

You are unaware of your own incompetence.

Example: A child having to think about what to say or do next or it comes out as jibberish.

Example:Children don't even think about how to talk, they just do it.

Incompetence is the inability to do something successfully.

Example: Babies don't know they can't talk.
