Video

zoo animals commonly exhibit signs of extreme depression and related psychological conditions as they struggle with the confines of their captivity. No matter how much zoos try to mimic the animal's natural habitat, It will never recreate the great expanse and free reign of open land.

Zoos are an attempt to preserve animals, But doing so can be detrimental to their mental health causing several factors such as stress and depression.

Not only is a trip to a zoo a fun activity, It is a chance for children and even adults to learn and come close to animals that they are unlikely to see.

Breeding

In modern zoos animals are kept in mini-habitats, It makes the enclosure where the animals live as close to it's natural habitat as possible.

Some breeding programs in zoos helped restore endangered and/or threatened species. Many animals are at high risks due to deforestation, hunting, poaching, destruction of their habitat.

Zookeepers now have specialist knowledge and usually specialize in an animal. That allows them to have an understanding of the animal's food and sleep requirements for better care. Zookeepers also arrange activities for their animal to prevent mental deterioration and becoming bored and/or depressed

Wild

Animals in the wild tend to have more freedom, but are always in constant danger from other animals and even humans. They do grow up in their natural environment and can get along with their own society, but they also have natural enemies to worry about as well. The stress level in the wild for animals is relatively low.

It is dangerous in the wild

Space

Social Life

Majority of the animals in the wild are social creatures. They need other animals to help each other survive. For example, elephants are social creatures. They need to be in a pack to survive and are very peaceful.

Living in the wild will present more danger compared to the protection and care a zoo. Animals can be harmed and killed by human activities like hunting, poaching, and destruction of their habitats. Wild animals can be hunted by other animals that are higher in the food chain as well.

Unlike captivity, wildlife animals are allowed to roam around as much as they want to. They don't require to roam around in the certain amount of space, they have as much space as they want and they can be able to do anything they want to do. This would make them feel that they have more freedom.

Conclusion

From the evidence that was given to you, you can see how captivity can bring an animal down not only mentality, but through the physical appearance. They would experience boredom and won't be as social. They feel a sense of freedom when they aren't in captivity. Although it is better for animals to live in the wild, there are several benefits for those in captivity. For certain situations, it's necessary to put them in captivity (e.g. a species in risk of becoming endangered or extinct, Lost of the animal's habitat, felt mistreated). In the wild perspective, animals do become more social and interactive, but they should be more cautious towards other animals as well.
