Accession to the throne
- On the 6 February, 1952, while in Kenya she received the news that her father had died
- Her coronation was in June at Westminister Abbey
- It was the first coronation to be broadcast on television

She is the second longest reigning Monarch in British history, the first being Queen Victoria.
In 1957, the Queen on her official visit to the United States, became the first monarch to open the nation's Parliament.
