The Outsiders might have been challenged because of language, use of alcohol, use of drugs and violence and murder.
I don't think it should be banned because it shows you what life was like in the 1960's. I have also read the book and nothing inappropriate happens. Gang fights and things like that happen all the time in todays world. All this is doing is just letting us know more about them but from the 1960’s
No one helped me during my research.
S.E. Hintons friend was jumped and she wrote about it in The Outsiders, just in more detail to make it interesting.
To be honest, I had no clue what censorship was before I started this project. I also didn't know that people actually banned books and thought it was completely outrageous.

The best source for information was on bannedbooks.world.edu. It was an arcticle written by Wolf Baldassarro.
Near the end of the book, Randy says, “You can’t win. You know that, don’t you? It doesn’t matter if you whip us; you’ll still be where you were before, at the bottom. And we’ll still be the lucky ones at the top with all the breaks. It doesn’t matter. Greasers will still be Greasers and Socs will still be Socs. It doesn’t matter.” I think this is basicly the theme of the book. Ponyboy and the rest of the Greasers have gotten no where and it will never change.
I choose this book because I was left with it and I had already read it. There was also tons of information about why it was banned on the internet.
I used the internet and the book.
I went from asking, "What in the world is censorship?" to, "How in the heck did I not know what censorship was?"
I don't think i would do anything differently next time.
The Outsiders is a novel written by S. E. Hinton. Hinton was 15 when she started writing the book and 18 when it was published. The Outsiders was quite a controversial book when it was realeased, as it is today!

I did not run into any problems during my research due to how much information was on one site.
I think censorship is a big waste of time, because everything you read in a book that is fiction...is not real.

I will chose different books, maybe something interesting that is non-fiction.
I know it’s shocking to hear this, but The Outsiders is one of the most banned books in the United States today. Do you think this is fair or right?
I think that banning The Outsiders is understandable. I think that this is fair because The Outsiders is a one of the books that older kids should read. For example, this book has drugs and gang violence in it. I can understand why somebody would want to band The Outsiders. There is already enough drugs and gang violence in the world.
Personally I wouldn’t band The Outsiders because I think most middle school kids could handle it. For example, having a person get jumped isn’t anything new to kids in middle school. One thing that could help prevent The Outsiders from getting banned is to tell people that it shows you valuable lessons. For example, Ponyboy is a very smart boy and doesn’t need a gang to succeed in life.
I know it’s shocking to hear this, but The Outsiders is one of the most banned books in the United States today. Do you think this is fair or right?
I think it is not fair that The Outsiders is starting to be banned. I think this because The Outsiders is a book that can teach kids a lesson. It teaches you not to smoke and drink or you would be turning into Johnny, Ponyboy, and Dally. Which is not a good situation to be in if that was them. The Outsiders show violence and drugs but also romance and love which is NOT bad at all. Its not like kids are going read a book and go smoke a cigarette and drink. The kids that actually would do It wouldn’t even think about reading a book and just go out and smoke.
The Outsiders is one of the most interesting books I ever read. Maybe to get through those kids heads is to give them a book that they could actually relate to. This book may teach kids that are doing drugs who wants to stop, stop. Ponyboy could help out a lot of kids that have under the influence so that’s why I think The Outsiders should not be banned. Ponyboy, Johnny, Dally, Sodapop, and the gang are great characters in this book, and they’re very entertaining.
