Even though Adam Dollard didn't win the fight

against the Iroquois and their army, he tried his

hardest for New France and independence.

Military Commander of New France

Adam Dollard is important to Canada because

he was a commander of the army in Montreal

and he most likely inspired other men in New France to fight against the Iroquois as well.

Adam Dollard was a soldier. In late April 1660, 17 Frenchmen left Montréal to attack Iroquois huntsmen who were arriving near the Ottawa River and Dollard was their commander. They were joined by 44 Hurons and Algonquins. Unfortunately, the Iroquois had 200-500 reinforcements brought in. Dollard and his men held out for a week before all the french were killed and so were most of the natives. Nine of them survived to be ritually tortured and eaten.

Adam Dollard des Ormeaux

Adam Dollard was born in

France on July 23rd, 1635. He is

known for fighting in the

infamous battle at the Long

Sault in 1660. The town of Dollard-

Des-Ormeaux is named after him.

He is known for that battle, which ninteenth-century historians had converted into religious and nationalistic epic in which zealous Roman Catholics deliberately sacrificed themselves to fend off an attack on New France.

Dollard's challenges were his battle with the iroquois at the Long Sault during the wars when the French, the Huron and their other allies were having lots of conflict with the Iroquois.
