Principled

What is Being Principled

One who act's with integrity and honesty with a strong sense of fairness, justice and respect for the dignity of the individual, groups and community. They take responsibility for their own actions and the consequences that accompanies them. I believe to be principled, you must understand the relevance of rules, limitations, and respect. To be principled, you must know the consequences of the course of actions you chose to take before you undergo the experience.

Examples of Principled People

Gandhi -

Rosa Parks -

Malcolm X -

Being principled will prevent you from

getting into trouble, getting an infraction

and allows people to trust you to do things.

How can you act principled?

Reasons For Our choices

Gandhi- He was principled because, despite the constant oppression and disrespect, he stood for his beliefs and peacefully fought against the corrupt system. He had fought for civil rights for India and he also fought for the independence of India.

Malcolm X- He supported fighting back instead of turning the other cheek and letting his kin be oppressed and disrespected. this shows that Malcolm X cares about the dignity of the black people that were mistreated.

Malcolm X Continued

Rosa Parks

Malcolm X was born Malcolm Little on May 19, 1925 in Omaha, Nebraska. When he grew older he traveled to Harlem, New York where he committed plenty of crimes. This all started when he lost interest in school at a young age. By 1942 Malcolm was committing crimes everyday.

It was during this period of self-enlightenment that Malcolm's brother Reginald would visit his jail cell when he was arrested in 1946 and discuss his recent conversion to the Muslim religion. Reginald belonged to the religious organization the Nation of Islam (NOI).

Gandhi was born in October 2 in 1869. He was a spiritual and political leader, In 1869 he went to London, England to study law. Then he went to South, Africa for 20 years to fight against discriminatory Legislation against Indians. As he was a pioneer of a mass non-violent civil disobedience, he became one of the major political and spiritual leader of his time. I believe that him going to South Africa fighting against discrimination against Indians shows how principled he is because he stands up for what is right.

Intrigued, Malcolm began to study the teachings of (Nation Of Islam) leader Elijah Muhammad. Muhammad taught that white society actively worked to keep African-Americans from empowering themselves and achieving political, economic and social success.

By the time he was paroled in 1952, Malcolm was a devoted follower with the new surname "X." We believe that this change in Malcolm X shows that he is thinking with integrity, and also accepts the fact that what he did would have consequences. Then he decided to show that he truly respected himself by changing his way in life. This is why we think Malcolm X is a very "Principled person.

Rosa Parks- I chose Mrs. Parks to be a principled person because she stood up for her rights against the white rules, the black people had to sit in the back of the bus, and Rosa Parks did not give up her seat in the black section to a white person. This started the well known bus boycott, and the civil rights movement. This shows that she that she did the right thing in a way that some people don't understand. This shows self-respect, and respect to the black community.

Rosa Parks was born on February 4, 1913. The bus Boycott lasted from December 1st 1955- December 20 1956. this Bus Boycott started all from Rosa Parks Standing up for what was right. She refused to give up her seat to a white person on the bus.

Rosa Parks soon became involved in civil rights issues and problems in Montgomery, By joining the Montgomery Chapter of the NAACP in 1943, serving as the chapter's youth leader as well as secretary to NAACP President E.D. Nixon.

You can be principled by doing what is right knowing the consequences of those actions. For example, if your friend is being bullied, you should tell the teacher even thou the bully might get mad at you, you should still do the right thing. Do you make decisions out of your own idea of what is right, or do you make decisions based on favoritism.

This means you do not always side with your best friend if you know what they stand for is not right. You will also do the right thing even when no one is looking. Everyone has done this before, for example when no one is looking, you drop a piece of trash on the floor and knowing does not belong there. A principled person would hold on to it until they find a trash can. Basically a person who is principled is someone who does the right thing all the time.
