Ares

Athena

Review

  • Who were Ares mother and father?
  • Can you name three of Ares symbols?
  • If Ares was alive today, would he end or create conflict?
  • What do you think Ares felt when Aphrodite and Hephaestus got engaged?
  • What would be the outcome of a battle between Ares and Zeus

Conflict

After his birth, Hera cast the crippled Hephaestus from heaven in disgust. When he grew up, he sent gifts to Olympus, including a golden throne for Hera. But when the goddess sat upon it she was bound fast. Hera offered the hand of Aphrodite in marriage to the god who could release her. Ares attempted to bring him Hephaestus back to Olympus by force, but was driven back by a flaming volley of metal shards. Dionysus later suggested that Hephaestus return willingly and claim the prize of Aphrodite for himself.

Neither Ares nor Aphrodite were pleased with this outcome, and were forced to engage.

Traits

Ares loved violence,

warfare, and conflict.

His father Zeus despised

him. He would sometimes

fight against his own side

in wars just for fun. Some

considered him a monster but some admired him.

God of War

The Death of War

It is possible with Ares being the God of War, with his death brought the end of all wars, and thus brought peace everywhere on Earth. However, Kratos, having killed Ares the one who made him kill his family, asked Athena to remove the nightmares of his past

Symbols and Weapons

Ares was the god of war. His father was Zeus the god of Olympus. His mother was Hera the Goddess of marriage and childbirth. Aphrodite (the goddess of love and beauty) had a love relationship with Ares.
