Elijah Prays For No Rain

Lesson

Introduction

  • I wasn't here last week so who could tell me the lesson?
  • What did you learn from it?
  • Who knows who Elijah is?
  • What do you know about him?
  • Why do you think he prayed for no rain?
  • After 3 years of no rain, God told Elijah to go see King Ahab
  • Ahab blamed Elijah for causing the drought but Elijah said that it's Ahab's fault for not following God's commandments and worshiping false idols
  • Elijah told him to gather all the prophets for his false Gods and to meet him on Mount Carmel
  • There were more than 450 prophets that met him and Elijah said that both sides should prepare a bull and put it to be sacrificed but not put any fire under it, but the one that God catches on fire is the true God

Lesson

Conclusion

Lesson

  • What can we learn from this story?
  • How can we practically apply lessons in this story to our lives?
  • The prophets for the false Gods prepared the bull and prayed for a really long time, but nothing happened
  • Then Elijah made an altar with 12 stones for the 12 tribes of Israel and made a trench around it and put the bull on the wood
  • Then he told them to fill 4 large pots with water and pour it on the bull and wood and he did that 3 times, then he filled up the trench with water
  • Then Elijah prayed and God sent down fire that burned everything, even the water
  • There was once a king named Ahab
  • He was worse than any other king that came before him and he worshiped a fake God
  • One day, the lord sent a prophet named Elijah to tell Ahab that there will be no more rain or dew until he says so
  • Then God told Elijah to go live by a stream where he could drink water and ravens could bring him meat and bread each day
  • Eventually, it dried up, so God told him to go find a widow in Zarephath
  • Afterwards, Elijah went to the top of Mount Carmel and told his servant to go look at the sea for the rain
  • The servant said there was nothing but Elijah said go again
  • On the 7th time, there was a small cloud
  • Elijah told the servant to warn Ahab to start leaving before the rain stops him and immediately the sky turned black and there was a lot of clouds and wind and heavy rain

Memory Verse

Lesson

"And those who know Your name will put their trust in You; For You, Lord, have not forsaken those who seek You." Psalm 9:10

  • Elijah found the widow and asked her for some water and a piece of bread, but she was poor and didn't have anything more than a little flour and oil.
  • Elijah told her to go make him a cake and make one for her and her son too and not to worry because her flour and oil will not run out until the day that the rain comes back again
  • So Elijah lived at their house and they were able to eat, but one day the son was sick and about to die
  • Elijah prayed for the son and stretched himself over him 3 times and the son was healed and he lived again.
