Learning Objective: YWBAT navigate in a 3D environment.

Essential Question: How can we be sure that an object is where we want it to be?

Unit 3: 3D Modeling

Do Now: Write down the three primary tools of navigation in 3D modeling that you learned about yesterday. Then answer: Which navigation tool would you use to accomplish each of the following?

a. Center Bob in the frame.

b. See the letter on the front of his overalls.

c. See the top of Bob's head.

Tinkercad: Keychain

Look closely and discuss with your group. Can you be sure that the letters were placed correctly on this name tag? Why or why not?

Tinkercad: Navigation Race

Your assignment (due at the end of the period):

1. 03.05 Tinkercad Tutorial: Key Ring, Letters! Complete the tutorial and answer the questions on the Google Doc.

2. Complete the Minecraft Party Glasses tutorial and answer those questions (assignment 03.03).

To complete:

1. Pick up your Chromebook.

2. Go to Google Drive > Tech & Design folder and open "03.05_Key Ring".

3. Read the instructions, answer all questions within.

Using a trackpad with Tinkercad

Complete the navigation race (timed - 15 minutes). Answer all reflection questions within the Google Doc 03.01_Navigation Race. (Note: the winning team gets a print of their choice from Thingiverse.)

To complete:

1. Pick up your Chromebook.

2. Go to Google Drive > Tech & Design folder and open "03.01_Navigation Race".

3. Read the instructions, answer all questions within.

1. No headphones - except when watching assigned videos.

2. Only use the laptop assigned to you.

3. Carry the laptop by the base (not the screen).

4. On task - off task behavior results in a 0 for today's participation grade.

Navigation Race!

  • Use the basic navigation tools of Zoom, Pan, Orbit and Focus to locate each person, animal, or thing.
  • To verify your findings, take a screen shot of each item as you find it.
  • Please Note: The screen shot must be a direct view of the object you are trying to find. Screen shots of things in the distance won’t cut it!
  • After finding everything, fill out the reflection within the Google Doc.
