Old Testament Hairstyles

Emperors that influenced hairstyles

  • Emperor Nero invented sideburns
  • Emperor Hadrian invented the short beard
  • Emperor Constantine innovated the Wig and made it popular

Roman Women

  • Simple bun or Headband
  • Became more flaymboyant when Emperor Flavian invented the curls

Roman Men

  • Wore their hair short because of barbers in Italy
  • A full head of hair was praised
  • baldness was looked down upon

Roman Hairstyle changed many times throughout history often influenced by their Emporer

Ancient Romans had many different hair colors

Egypt

Baldness was looked down upon and they had several remedies such as Chopped lettuce and ground-up hedgehog spines to treat it.

Combs made of fishbone were the earliest known combs

Like all other nations Egyptions had hair color of all kinds

Greek Men

Women

Men hair included beards and long hair, shaving did not become popular among men until Roman times

Men

Women had many hairstyles, mummies show that they were experienced in weaving, hair coloring, and even added false braids.

Clean Shaven and had many styles that were short and long

Men wore long hair

Boys had to have their head shaved except for a lock above their ear

Greece Hairstyles

  • The Greeks Prized Golden Hair
  • Achilles, Menelaus and Paris had blonde or golden hair
  • Men wanted gold hair more than women

Every Other Civilization

All civilizations boasted a beard and long hair, unlike the Greeks, Romans, and egyptians some civilizations did not have records of everything and therefore hairstyles are unknown.

Every other civilization in the ancient world had pretty much the same style of hair, either that or there has not been any evidence to prove that they weren't
