Transcript of LS-MH- CH. 7-INFORMATION PROCESSING & MEMORY-PART 4
WHAT DO YOU THINK?
Umbrella-like concept that encompasses a number of higher-level cognitive processes linked to the development of the brain's prefrontal cortex
MEMORY AND AGING
Declines in memory skills in old age are not universal. In Chinese culture, elderly people are not stereotyped as forgetful and senile. Perhaps, as a result, Chinese elders perform almost as well as young Chinese adults on memory tasks, whereas , in the U.S., elders, perform poorly.
MEMORY DEVELOPMENT IN EMERGING ADULTS
They develop large and organized knowledge bases and highly effective specialized and automated ways of retrieving and using their knowledge.
MEMORY DEVELOPMENT IN ADOLESCENCE
Adolescents master advanced learning strategies, note taking and underlining, and they use their strategies more deliberately and selectively.
INFORMATION PROCESSING- PART 4
THINKING IS MANIPULATING AND TRANSFORMING INFORMATION IN MEMORY, IN ORDER TO REASON, REFLECT, THINK CRITICALLY, EVALUATE IDEAS, SOLVE PROBLEMS, AND MAKE DECISIONS
This level of thinking involves grasping the deeper meaning of ideas, keeping an open mind about different approaches and perspectives, and deciding for one's self what to believe or do.
DEVELOPMENTAL COGNITIVE NEUROSCIENCE has emerged as the major discipline that studies links between development, the brain, and cognitive functioning. This field relies on brain imaging techniques....fMRI, PET.....
