Setting up the telegraphs back at that time of the Industrial Revolution were certainly hard. It took many people to build wires and telegraph poles that would stretch across the whole country side. Building these telegraphs were very time consuming and workers would have to work very long days in order to finish putting up the telegraphs.

The Inventor

Why was the Telegraph invented

Samuel Morse was the an American inventor of the electrical telegraph. He was born on the 27 of April 1791 and died 2 of April 1872. Samuel was a university art professor before he became an inventor but due to financial difficulties he turned to his studying to maths and science. During his studies he starts to create a metal device that sends messages electrically, The telegraph. Samuel also invented the Morse code that would change the data received from the telegraph machine in to proper letters

In 1832, Samuel Morse was on a ship from Europe traveling to the USA when he over heard a conversation on board about Electromagnetism. Electromagnetism is interaction of electric currents or fields and magnetic fields. This conversation sparked his interest in the making of the telegraph. He wanted to make communication faster for all people

What is a telegraph?

The telegraph is a device that sends messages a long distance away by using wires that send electrical impulses which later on turns into data. Morse code was used to change the data into proper letters by the telegraph operates who are people that work on the telegraph machines at the factories.
