Point of View

As you watch the clip plot the story in your notes.

After the clip: Would the story change if the rabbit was replaced with a dog or the magician with a chef? How?

What we've done: Identifying point of view in a text.

What we're working towards now: Comparing and contrasting different characters' points of view in a text.

Describe what is happening in the video from the bicyclist's point of view?

Point of View: Review

- Point of view is the perspective the story is being told from. The story is either told by a character in the story or a narrator outside the story.

Now, describe what is happening from the point of view of someone watching the bicyclist.

- First Person: Story is told by a character in the story. Pronouns such as I, me, my are used.

- Third Person: Story is told by an outside narrator. Pronouns such as he, she, they, etc are used.

Comparing and Contrasting Points of View

- Now that you have a basic understanding of point of view, it's important to understand how a story changes if you change who tells it.

- Though stories are typically told from one point of view, considering how other characters view the events of a story increases understanding.
