Lizzie Borden is most famous as an axe murderess in 1892. She was to believed to have murder her parents, Andrew Borden and Abby Borden. Her trial was the biggest news of the century. The shock is that Lizzie was ruled not guilty.
I don't have much in common with Lizzie, but there are some similarities. Lizzie loved to read. She had her own room with a bookcase full of books. I, personally, do enjoy books. Lizzie also had a sister, like me. She had a passionate loved for animal too. Some differences are that Lizzie was an axe murder. She was also shunned and was the biggest news of the century, and believed to have gotten away with murder.

After the deaths of Mr. and Mrs. Borden, Emma and Lizzie received all the inheritance. Much of this money went to Lizzie's lawyer and Mrs. Borden's widowed sister. After the trial, Lizzie changed her name to Lizbeth. Lizzie, now Lizbeth, moved out of her family home and built her own house, Maplecroft. She and her sister, Emma, lived there for a while until Emma moved out in 1905. Lizbeth never saw her sister again and lived the remainder of her life alone. She died on June 1, 1927. She is buried in Oak Grove Cemetery. Today you can have a bed and breakfast in the old Borden house where the murders took place.

Lizzie Borden & the Trial of the Century
by Sarah Miller
Lizzie, in the end, achieved her goal of not being found guilty. She achieved her goal by her calmness, kindness, quietness and perseverance. With Lizzie always being kind and never showing any signs of insanity, she seemed innocent and to have no motive to kill her father and stepmother. Lizzie also made friends and had many supporters that carried her through her trial. Her sister, and the other woman sent her many gifts and candies to show support.
The main problem was the murder of Mr. and Mrs. Borden. Lizzie was accused of murdering her parents. She faced the court, and, if convicted, jailed and executed. Even though she was ruled not guilty, the public's opinion of her was a problem. After being ruled not guilty, the public still shunned her.

Since the whole town of River Falls, MA though her to be guilty the rumor started, and eventually as song sprung from it. "Lizzie Borden took an axe, when she saw what she had done, she gave her father forty-one." It became a popular song for skipping rope. Many poems, plays, and books where written about it. A few movies where made and even a tv show.
