Tejanos- texans of mexican decent, white settlers, enslaved African Americans, Mexicans, and Stephen Austin who sold land to the people

What did he do?

  • he became a leader of those who wanted a strong central government, he also enforced laws banning state militias
  • he was also the leader of the mexican army
  • he chaned sides midway

Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna

  • he was a supporter of the rights of mexican states

battle of Gonzales

  • date- October 21, 1835
  • mexican forces wanted a cannon back that they had lent the tejanos
  • it was the first battle of the Texas revolution

Sam Houston

  • He was the leader of texas forces
  • Him abd his troops retreated to the east and were followed by Santa Anna
  • they suprise attacked Santa Anna
  • then when they took him hostage they forced him to sign the treaty of Velasco to end the war
  • but the mexicans didn't believe the texans that he signed th treaty

The Alamo

  • date- February 23, 1836
  • The Texans and Tejnos were in the Alamo
  • Santa Anna's men demanded that they surrender
  • after the Alamo they stopped mexican rule on texas and signed the Texas Declaration of Independence
  • They also wrote the constitution for Texas

The Texas Declaration of Independence

  • They wrote it on March 2, 1836
  • it discontinued Mexican power and made Texas its own nation
  • Texas was now known as the Republic of Texas
