- he became a leader of those who wanted a strong central government, he also enforced laws banning state militias
- he was also the leader of the mexican army
- he chaned sides midway
Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna
- he was a supporter of the rights of mexican states
battle of Gonzales
- date- October 21, 1835
- mexican forces wanted a cannon back that they had lent the tejanos
- it was the first battle of the Texas revolution
Sam Houston
- He was the leader of texas forces
- Him abd his troops retreated to the east and were followed by Santa Anna
- they suprise attacked Santa Anna
- then when they took him hostage they forced him to sign the treaty of Velasco to end the war
- but the mexicans didn't believe the texans that he signed th treaty
The Alamo
- date- February 23, 1836
- The Texans and Tejnos were in the Alamo
- Santa Anna's men demanded that they surrender
- after the Alamo they stopped mexican rule on texas and signed the Texas Declaration of Independence
- They also wrote the constitution for Texas
The Texas Declaration of Independence
- They wrote it on March 2, 1836
- it discontinued Mexican power and made Texas its own nation
- Texas was now known as the Republic of Texas

The Battle of San Jacinto
- Date- April 21, 1836
- Sam Houston's army attcked Santa Anna near the present day city of Houston
- The Texans captured Santa Anna
- The Texans won and secured independence from Mexico
