Historically, before ancient Greece, Medusa was worshipped by the Libyan Amazons as a Serpent -Goddess, and associated with the destroyer aspect Anath (also known as Athene) of the Triple Goddess in North Africa and Crete. The name Medusa (Medha in Sanscrit, Metis in Greek and Maat in Egyptian) means "sovereign female wisdom."

Although the two other Gorgons were immortal, Medusa was not. One of the best-known legends about her tells of how the Greek hero Perseus killed her. Perseus and his mother, Danaë, lived on the island of Seriphos, which was ruled by King Polydectes. The king wanted to marry Danaë, but Perseus opposed the marriage.

Medusa, at least in some accounts, was once a beautiful woman who unwittingly attracted the attention of the sea god Poseidon. When the god chose to mate with her, they were in the temple of Athena. Athena was furious. As always, blaming the mortal woman, she got revenge by turning Medusa into a monster so horrible that a single glance at her face would turn a man to stone.

THIS DESERVES AN A+

FACT #2

FACT #3

ATHENA HELPED MEDUSA

With the help of a goddess name Athena and a group of nymphs, Perseus obtained special equipment for his task: a sharpened sickle, a cap that made the wearer invisible, and a pair of winged sandals. He also polished his bronze shield so that he could see Medusa's reflection in it and not gaze directly at her. Wearing the magic cap and following Medusa's reflection in his shield, Perseus crept up on the Gorgons. He cut off Medusa's head in one swipe and put it in a bag.

MEDUSA. Why does she turn people into stone?

FACT #1

Medusa's head, an apparently simple motif linked to the myth of Perseus, was freed through being severed and cut loose from its 'moorings' by the hero in the remote depths of the world. There is something paradoxical about the story since the monster was all the more indestructible because it had been killed.

NOT ALWAYS UGLY!

Medusa was not always a monster!!!

THAT IS MY GODDESS NAME!!!

GREEK AND ROMAN MYTHOLOGY!!!

Medusa was one of three sisters in Greek mythology Known as the Gorgons. In alot of myths she appearedas a horribly ugly women with hair made of snakes, but sometimes she is describe as being beautiful.

Medusa became a cruel monster of so frightening an aspect that no living thing could behold her without being turned into stone. All around the cavern where she dwelt might be seen the stony figures of men and animals which had chanced to catch a glimpse of her and had been petrified with the sight. Perseus, favored by Athena and Hermes, the former of whom lent him her shield and the latter his winged shoes, approached Medusa while she slept.

THANKS FOR WATCHING!!!!

In both Greek and Roman mythology, Perseus, attempting to rescue his mother Danae from the coercive King Polydectes, needed to embark on the dangerous venture of retrieving Medusa's head. With the help of Athena and Hermes - magic winged sandals, a cap, a pouch and a mirror-like shield, he fought her and beheaded her by viewing her image in the mirror of his shield rather than looking at her directly.

MEDUSA'S LIFE

Medusa was the daughter of Phorkys and Keto, the children of Earth and Ocean.
