We are able to understand the issues with eating disorders by simply looking at the facts. There are about 24 million people in the US who have eating disorders, and about 50 percent of them also have depression. In a college setting about 91 percent of students admitted to dieting to control their weight. More than 50 percent of teen girls say that they use unhealthy measures to lose weight, and 25 percent of college girls binge and purge to control their weight. These issues need to be understood that you are only hurting yourself if you do unspeakable things to look like someone who isn't real.
There are many examples of issues that go along with female body image issues, but the two main issues are anorexia and bulimia. Anorexia and Bulimia both have major health risks that people may not be aware of at the time, but sooner come to realize them. Anorexia changes the way that your body functions, which can lead to heart problems because you aren't getting nutrients so your body slows down servery. Bulimia causes electrolyte imbalances which gives irregular heartbeats that could lead to heart failure or possibly death.
Having the picture of a "perfect body" on every magazine, everywhere you look, girls often find themselves dieting and taking other drastic measures to get the ideal body. Eating disorders have become a major problem amongst teenaged girls in our society. People need to start being aware of these issues because it is, and will always be causing health problems for reasons that they don't need to be. All these problems wouldn't have to happen if people could see themselves as beautiful, and not worry so much about what people think.
A girls body image has become one of the main reasons that teenage girls are struggling to be themselves. Social media has become surrounded by the fact that if you aren't skinny, you aren't beautiful. Female body image problems will be around for as long as I can think of, simply because people aren't doing anything to change the issue. There are many issues that come from body image, that could be stopped, but people don't think about it until it's too late.
