Spreading itself from Alaska to Northern and Central Mexico the Pacific Coastal Region is a magnificent part of North America. The terrain includes valleys and rough mountain ranges. Not only this, but everything borders the lovely pacific ocean. This extraordinary place is the home to many interesting geographical features including the Redwood National Park, Siuslaw Forest, and the Oregon DunesNational Recreation. It holds many wonderful cities like Seattle, Vancouver, and Las Angelas.
The Pacific Coastal Region has many natural resources. Both renewable and non-renewable. Some of the renewable resources are trees and fish. While non-renewable resources include oil, coal, and metals .These resources create an opportunity for many different industries like fishing, forestry, wineries, oil, and mining. Due to the metal price increase , there has been a swell in the mining industry. On the other hand, the fishing industry has shrunk.
In the Rocky Mountain Region, the natural resources include trees, which are renewable, while minerals and oil are non-renewable.
The industries in this region include, mining, forestry, tourism, and outdoor recreation. Recently, there has been an enormous increase in the outdoor recreation industry.
In the Rocky Mountain Region, they are working on the conservation of the sagebrush habitat. They are trying to create more free land for the bison to roam. They are also encouraging the use of wind energy. They are starting to use oil shale to reduce the pollution of the land.
The Pacific Coastal Range usually has a mild temperature range with around 150-380cm of precipitation each year. Some hazards that come with this weather include coastal storms, tsunamis, coastal erosion, flooding, and earthquakes. In January 1994, a 6.7 earthquake killed 50 people and left around 20,000 people homeless. This earthquake did $30 billion in damages. Also in October of 1991, a wildfire destroyed 1,500 acres of land. It killed 25 people and thousands of others lost there homes.
The current industries of the Pacific Coastal Range will have expanded. They plan to use flowing water captured by new dams to create hydroelectric energy. They also plan to consistently increase and improve the tourism industry.
People in the Pacific Coastal Range Region have polluted the oceans with fertilizer run-off. The increase of sediment, due to logging, is responsible for the decrease of living plants in the area, and the destruction of the ecosystem. Changes, in the coastline, inhibit the natural draining process.
In the Pacific Coastal Region, a large food source caused the population to expand. Seattle, which started as a logging town, is now the largest city in Washington State, which is also known for the production of cement, clay, flour, and food. Oregon State, on the other hand, is known for the production of wood products and grain shipments.
The Rocky Mountain Region has mild summers, cold winters and a large amount of precipitation. Some hazards that come with this is lack of oxygen from the high elevations, dangerous wildlife, drastically changing weather, snow & ice fields, and hypothermia. In July 1991, there was a hail storm that caused $1 billion in damages. In Colorado, in June of 2012, there was a wildfire that caused $453 million in damages. This killed 2 people and burned 29 sq miles of land.
The animal population and vegetation, in the Rocky Mountain Region, created a desirable condition for the Native American to settle there. With more settlers came more tents and eventually this grew into cities.
The effects of clear-cutting to make room for cities and settlements in the Rocky Mountain Region destroyed the habitats of wildlife. The Eagle River, was polluted due to the mining of Zinc in the area. The runoff of mining minerals, caused damage to the algae, moss, and trout populations
