Why should an individual earn a Human Services Degree at Manchester Community College (MCC)?

MCC’s Human Services Degree curriculum includes four courses that specifically focus on giving the student hands-on experience in the Human Services field. This hands-on experience increases a student’s marketability when entering the workforce directly after they complete their Associate’s Degree. This degree also gives students the opportunity to sample different courses to help them decide if a Bachelor’s Degree in Human Services, Social Work, or Psychology is a good fit. MCC also offers students the option to declare a specialty by combining their Associate’s Degree in Human Services with one of four Human Services Certificates. Students can earn both a specialized certificate and an Associate’s Degree in Human Services without having to take additional coursework. Students work toward their certificate first and all certificate course credits seamlessly transfer into MCC’s Associate’s Degree in Human Services.

Associate’s Degree completion can steer a student toward the right Bachelor’s Degree program or toward an entry level job position. The internship specific coursework within the degree design will help a student gain the hands-on experience needed to excel in the work force.

Colleges and Universities in NH that offer a Bachelor's Degree in Human Services:

Granite State College, Franklin Pierce University and Southern New Hampshire University all offer Bachelor’s Degree programs in Human Services.

There are other degree trajectories for students enrolling into an Associate's Degree in Human Services.

Students who obtain an Associate’s Degree in Human Services and wish to earn a Bachelor’s Degree may transfer into a Human Services, Social Work or a Psychology program at four year institutions.

*We are currently exploring the formalization of a concrete articulation agreement with area colleges.

Although there is a lot of overlap between the two degrees, students can use either Associate's Degrees to launch into several Bachelor's Degree programs. The major difference at Manchester Community College is the focus on a hands-on curriculum and experiential learning in the Associate's Degree in Human Services.

These services are offered through the Human Services delivery systems, which are comprised of programs and entitlements that address a variety of human needs in a variety of settings. Human Services encompass the areas of mental health, substance use, intellectual disabilities, welfare, child and youth services, veteran’s services and older adult services, among many others. The services are delivered in places such as mental health centers, service agencies, group homes, halfway houses, community centers, residential settings and private homes.
