Compare and Contrast Subculture

Stereotypes

Most people believe that people who play basketball are tall but that really does not matter you can be any height just as long as you know what you are doing.

Beliefs: practice, improvement, performance, sportsmanship.

Conflict with subculture and counterculture

My Subculture

Basketball Misconceptions

Stereotype and its affects

There is no 3-second count between the release of a shot and the control of a rebound, at which time a

new count starts.

A player can go out of bounds, and return inbound and be the first to touch the ball.

There is no such thing as “over the back”. There must be contact resulting in advantage/disadvantage.

Do not put a tall player at a disadvantage merely for being tall

Subculture problems: Mean people have to live a certain way.

Counterculture problems : Mean that the problem occurs after a new counterculture is created.

Subculture: Basketball

Norm: Two teams of five players each try to score by shooting a ball through a hoop elevated 10 feet above the ground. The game is played on a rectangular floor called the court, and there is a hoop at each end.

Values: player value the safety of themselves and teammates .

Stereotype affect both countercultures and subculture because a stereotype gives judgment to both sides.

Counterculture
