Kim Il Sung
Period 3
-In the Juche religion Kim Il sung is viewed as the equivalent of God in the Christian religion.
-After Kim Il Sung died in
1994, his body was embalmed
(an $800,000 procedure) and
can be viewed today by the
North Korean public in the
Kumsusan Memorial Palace.
-Before anyone is allowed to view the body, they must go through a series of security checks and cleansing processes, including x-ray scans and wind tunnels to remove any dust off of visitors.
How do N. Koreans Worship
Kim Il Sung?
-In every household in N. Korea there must be a portrait of "The Three Kims", Kim Il Sung, Kim Jong Il, and Kim Jong Un, hanging on the "nicest" wall in the house. There can be nothing beneath the portraits and members of the household bow down to the pictures at least three times a day. Neglecting to care for the portraits is considered a capitol crime and citizens have been known to run into burning buildings just to save the portraits.
