Gas will be processed at the processing plant 9 kilometres inland near Bellanaboy Bridge. The purpose of the plant is to dry the gas and remove impurities. The plant has a capacity of 10 million standard cubic metres of purified gas per day. Processed gas will be fed to the Bord Gáis gas grid.The piping for the Onshore Processing Plant is manufactured by Phoenix Pipes Limited in Slane Co.Meath
Some advantages to it is that it will create jobs and that will help the Irish economy. Also shell have said that the Irish Government will receive 4.4 billion euro over the next 20 years in a report they commisioned. It is also the biggest foreign direct investment in Mayo. Over 800 jobs will be created and over 130 permanent jobs will be created. These are the main advantages to it as you can see there aren't that many advantages for it.

Shell own 45%, Statoil own 36.5% and Vermillion Energy Trust own 18.5% of it.
I think that the Government are just ignoring the local people of Mayo because they are letting Shell do whatever they want because the Government are getting money. The Government are basically letting Shell control The Gardaí and The Gardaí are arresting a lot people. I think that Shell should not be allowed in and get the gas because there is loads of disadvantages to it
The corrib gas field was discovered in 1996. There has been many disputes about this between the locals and the Gardaí and the Government and some people have even gone to prison. Because the locals dont want shell to come in and get the gas. I think the Gardaí are abusing the locals and denying them of their rights. The Gardaí are just doing whatever Shell tell them to do and they are sending people to prison really for no reason. Also there is a lot of pollution going on and if one of the pipes breaks there will be loads of pollution and the towns the pipes are under could blow up. Thats why people are against it. These are some disadvantages to it.
The corrib gas field is located 83 kilometres of Erris Head in Mayo. The gas is coming from Triassic sandstone reservoir 3,000m below the seabed. Reserves in the field are believed to be about 1 trillion cubic feet. The natural gas in the Corrib gas field is very pure form gas. The Corrib gas does not contain hydrogen sulfide and carbon dioxide only makes up 0.3% of the total amount of gas.
