- real name was Martha Jane Canary (1852-1903)
- was a lengendary wagon driver,
driver, scout, and Wild West Show performer
- facts are often confused with fictional stories, most of which Canary told about herself
- usually dressed like a man
- Canary added to America's love of the West, and her stories entertained many
- She was also a prostitute in various frontier towns and was know for her wild drinking sprees
movies were made about Canary, but were mostly fictional
movies were later made about Oakley, including Annie Get Your Gun, which is loosely based on her life
