Poverty In Asia

Poverty In Latin America

A majority of the worlds poorest people today are in Asia - mainly because it holds a majority of the world's population. Of course some Asian countries like Japan and South Korea are not as poor as others like India and Cambodia, with Asian poverty being concentrated in South Asia.

Poverty in Latin America is widespread. The indigenous are the poorest of the Latin Americans, and their extreme poverty seems mainly due to unfair distribution of wealth. The rich get richer the poor get poorer.

4 Reason's For Poverty

3 Reason's For Poverty in Asia

1. The Countries Population are going far to fast to compete with the raw resources & agriculture available.

2. Education, medicine, clean water and sanitation are often inadequate.

3. In some Asian countries land ownership is very problematic (since the lands have been passed on to generations) it is hard for families to make it out of poverty.

1. Latin America has generally allied with expensive high interest rate aid loans, this has made escaping poverty very difficult for many Latin American governments.

2. Poverty in some Latin American countries has been worsened by migrations, internal conflicts and bad government.

3. In some Latin American countries poverty is largely due to the pressure of population growth on scarce resources.

4. In some of the region drug-related social and political instability helps maintain poverty.

Poverty levels have decreased in recent years in countries like Mexico due to there education rates increasing.

-IQ of under 75 was; $11,000

-IQ between 75 and 90; $16,000

The majority of poverty-stricken children are born to poor parents. Many children are born into poverty, governments/government policies such as communism , lack of education, unemployment, social services, disabilities and discrimination significantly affect the presence of child poverty. Lack of parental disposable income restricts children’s opportunities to further there education; parents don't have money for post-secondary education.

Graph Analysis

- Less than high school graduates experience the highest poverty levels.

-People who have only secondary level education tend to be more likely to live in poverty.

-People with Post-secondary tend to have higher paying jobs; therefore are more likely to not live in poverty.

What is Poverty?

There are two Degrees of Poverty

What is Education?

Other cause's ; Teen Pregnancy, unintended pregnancy, and increased numbers of single mothers. Single mother's are also cited as a major cause of poverty and welfare dependency for themselves and their children.

Extreme poverty is the severe lack of material possessions or money.

-In 2005 the World Bank defined extreme poverty as living on less than US$1.25 a day.

- So now in Canada today this means surviving on 1.24 $

-Extreme poverty is the deprivation of basic human needs, which includes food, water, sanitation, clothing, shelter, health care and education.

And

-The action or process of educating or of being educated; also: a stage of such a process

-The knowledge and development resulting from an educational process <a person of little education>

Relative Poverty is the state of one who lacks a certain amount of material possessions or money.

-Relative poverty is defined contextually as economic inequality in the location or society in which people live.

Canada's Education Vs Poverty Level

Vs

-Post-Secondary Education: Higher education past High School; refers to a level of education that is provided at academies, universities, colleges, seminaries & Institutes.

Vs

High School Education - A secondary school that usually includes grades 9 or 10 through 12.

-In 2012, a record 882,000 Canadians used food banks each month, the highest level of food bank usage ever

-McMaster University study (2010) finds a 21-year difference in life expectancy between the poorest neighbourhood and the wealthiest neighbourhood in Hamilton, Ontario.

-In 2001/02, there were 689,700 students in Canada enrolled in full-time and part-time undergraduate studies at post-secondary institutions such as universities, colleges, and trade schools.

-Canada has the highest completed post-secondary education out of the top 5 countries in the world.

-Almost 40 % of Canadians have graduated from post-secondary education this heavily influences our low poverty rates.

Poverty In Africa

Independent & Dependent Variables

Analysis

A majority of the worlds poorest countries today are in Africa. In recent years absolute poverty in Africa has shown some slight falls, African income levels have actually been dropping relative to the rest of the world.

- Our independent variable is whether the population of these countries are educated & literate.

- Our dependent variable is whether the population lives in poverty ; because the countries poverty level is dependent on how educated the population is.

Education & Poverty go hand-in-hand. Poverty is constant, when a majority of the country's population is uneducated and illiterate. Countries can reduce poverty level as they educate their population. Mexico is a good example of this in practice as they educated their people there poverty levels reduced; their literacy rating's went up as their poverty levels lowered. Countries tend to remain in poverty when their governments don't educate and vice versa, Countries that educate themselves and have a high literacy rate tend to have lower poverty rates

5 Reasons

1. African land is tough to take care of, rain is scarce and extreme weather makes natural resources tough to maintain.

2. Financial aid going to African countries has often been mostly emergency food aid needed as short-term help with famines african governments have taken the money to use for the military or to add to their profits; corruption has kept the poverty struggle in Africa.

3. The richer countries tend often to exploit poor countries and give unfairly low price for their exports of commodities such as tea, coffee, bananas and their other export products.Africa's natural resources have been taken advantage of by European and American companies largely taking money out of Africa.

4. Post-Secondary education is very scarce within the continent this makes getting out of the poverty cycle near impossible.

5. Africa has many Civil wars, war-torn environments make agriculture suffer. African wars and corrupt governments maintain poverty levels in the continent.
