Summary

This story is about Joe Atkins,

a senior in high school who has to start

a "new life" 155 miles away from his best friends, Marty and Richard, who are still back at his old school, Worthington High. Now having to attend Graham High, Joe does something nobody, not even Joe himself, would suspect him to do. He joins the football team. He became part of the crowd that he would call snobs and made fun of in the past. All he thinks about is what Marty and Richard would think. But all he can do now is play. After practically becoming an All-Star football player, Joe has to make tough decisions, mainly on his perspective on people and, well, football.

The setting was at Graham High School.

The theme of Halfback Tough would have to be

judgement. Joe learned that he might have judged

the football players too quickly and found out that not all of them were snobs like he and his friends had thought.

The main conflicts in this book were

Man vs. Man, when Joe has to compete

for the position as a halfback on the 1st

string line up, and Man vs. himself when

Joe has to decide how to handle different

situations with his new teammates.

MAIN CHARACTERS

Joe Atkins- was a trouble maker, who turned into an all star football player. His two friends from his old school, Richard and Marty, were also trouble makers the whole life.

Jason McNeal- Jason is the senior wide receiver who doesn’t get along with Joe.

Paul -star quarterback, leader of football team

Andy- only guy who made friends with Joe, plays fullback for the team.

The point of view is third

person objective.

I thought this book was

generally good. The author made

sure that there was always something

exciting happening, but didn't go overboard

to where it was confusing. Over all, I would

definitely recommend this book to my friends.
