Michael Joseph Blassie was born on April 4, 1948. He was the oldest of five children of a St. Louis meat cutter.
Blassie became an officer in the United States Air Force. His official rank was First Luitenant Pilot Michael Blassie. He served as a member of the 8th Special Operations Squadron.

This is the kind of plane Blassie flew. His plane was shot down in South Vietnam. He died on May 11th, 1972. When his plane was shot down, it landed in territory controled by the VC. His remnants were not recovered until five months later during an area sweep. It was classified as an unknown soldier.
Blassie's remains lay in the Tomb of the Unknowns in Washington D.C. for 14 years until on May 14, 2011. The government was forced to open the tomb for DNA testing. His identity was confirmed and his family was informed of his identification.
After his body had been identified, he was buried properly in Arlington Cemetery. He had been awarded a Medal of Honor for his bravery durin his service.
