Personally, I think I would like the koto. It reminds me a lot of a dulcimer instrument, which I have had a little experience with. It seems like a fairly large tradition, and I would enjoy it very much!

The most famous koto player is Michio Miyagi.
Koto is fairly popular in Japan due to the fact that it is seen as a woman's tradition before she gets married.
The Koto is a six-foot long instrument comprised of thirteen strings. The instrument is placed on tatami mats on the floor, and the player sits in the traditional seiza style, which is a position with legs folded. Much like an advance guitarist, players wear finger picks called plectrums on the index, thumb and middle finger of the left hand. Regarded as mainly a woman's instrument, many Japanese women often take koto lessons before getting married.
Koto is a tradional instrument dating back to the sixteenth century. The koto is likely to have originated on the mainland of Asia. Regarded as a women's instrument, many women take koto lessons before marriage, just like tea ceremony or flower arrangement lessons.
