What is Water Pollution?
Water is important in our everyday lives, it keeps us hydrated and helps us grow vegetation.
But do you know what water pollution actually is?
Water pollution is contaminated water from chemicals we humans use daily. It can affect our health, environment, and limited water supply.
In this presentation we will answer how water pollution affects human populations.
Wars Over Water
Our world is covered in water. But only 3% of our water is drinkable and 2% of that is not accesseble. Water pollution is making our limited resoruce even more limited. Already 780 million people in our world have unclean or scarce amounts of water. In 2030 it is estimated that 47% of the worlds population will be lacking the basic need of water. The US Director of National Intelligence has predicted that the next world war will be over water, and some countires have already started to prepare.
This shows the little amount of fresh water available.
How does Polluted Water Effect Human Populations?
How Water Pollution Affects Our Health
Many diseases such as Malaria and Cholera are distributed from polluted water. Although it's not a large issue in first world countries, many people do die from these diseases in developing countries. Water can get polluted from human and animal waste. When this water is consumed, diseases can occur that mostly affect children.

How Contaminated Animals Affect Humans
Animals all around the world rely on water whether it is to drink from or live in. When animals consume polluted water or waste in the water, they can have many health effects. How does this affect us? When we consume the contaminated animals, we can experiance similar health problems as drinking the polluted water. If water in your area is polluted, the last thing you would want to do is consume it, let alone eat animals that have been drinking and living in the water as well.
This is what aquatic animals are living in.
Diseases from water pollution usually happen in the poorly developed areas on this map (red and orange).

Floods By Water Pollution
Water pollution can also cause floods. When water is polluted the waste can block sewers. With water being clogged in the sewers the rivers, lakes and oceans can exprince rising in water levels. If the water levels rise enough, nerby streets have the potentinal to flood. These floods can damge man made objects like houses and can kill humans.
Conclusion
We hope throughout this presantation you have learned how polluted water can affect human populltions and how serious water pollution can be. We would like to end this presantation with two ways to prevent water pollution:
- Stay away from throwing garbage in bodies of water
- NEVER put unwanted chemicals down the drain. Make sure to dispose of them safley

One Way Water Can Be Polluted
Water is polluted daily in many different ways. Farmers pollute water when pesticides wash off their crops and drain into the sewer. When the pesticides mix with the water it becomes polluted. It is possible to remove the pesticides but, it is highly difficult. If the water is not treated, it pollutes the lake and any aquatic animals living in it.
How This Could Affect Us
Polluted water can cause over population of algae. Well whats the big deal with too much algae? Once the algae die the water loses oxygen. Low oxygen in bodies of water can only support the life of some aquatic animals, and sometimes none at all. In costal regions there are many people who rely on fish to survive. With the loss of aquatic animals, people will be forced to find another way of living.
