  • Christmas in Palestine.
  • What happened during the last century?

During the Christmas season, Bethlehem in Palestine welcomes Christian worshipers from all denominations from all over the world. An estimated 10,000 were in the Square on Christmas Eve last year! It is an exciting, colorful and lively time during which a message of hope is broadcast around the world by the large number of media agencies covering Manger Square in which the Church of the Nativity is found, On Christmas Eve there is a parade through the town. This is very important to the Christian part of the population. There are bagpipe bands in the parade, which you might not expect! Playing the bagpipes is a tradition left over from when the British army occupied the area between 1920 and 1948. People also dress up as Santa Claus and give out sweets. The streets and main square are decorated with lights.

Perhaps the most famous part of Christmas in Bethlehem is the church service of the Mass of the Nativity. It is held on Christmas Eve afternoon/evening/midnight in the Church of the Nativity. The Church is built over the place where it's traditionally thought that Jesus was born. There's a small door into the Church called the door of humility. The church was built, by the romans, about 500 years after Jesus was born. The most holy part of the church is the Grotto of the Nativity, which is under the main altar. A silver star marks the place where Jesus was meant to have been born.

s

  • 33,000 Jews were living in Palestine and treated as normal Palestinians with no discrimination neither racism and having the palestinian passport.

Why is Palestine called the holy land?

  • It is considered holy by the three famous religions in the world by being mentioned in the holy books; Judaism, Christianity, and Islam.
  • It's holy for christians for having Jesus Christ born there in Bethlehem, having the church of nativity and another holy church called the holy sepulchre church.
  • It's also holy for Muslims for the event of Isra' and Mi'raj that took place over there and also having two of the holiest mosques in Jerusalem (Al Aqsa Mosque and The Dome of The Rock)
  • Also for Judaism for Mount Nebo, where Moses presumably died, being called the promised land and for having the wailing wall where they love to pray.

.What is Palestine ?and where is it located?

  • Basically, it's located in the Middle East. Specifically in Asia, and it has both Syria and Lebanon up in the north side and Egypt down in the south.
  • Jordan is on the east side of Palestine and the Mediterranean sea is right on the west coast of it.
  • It's considered to be the heart of the arab nation because it's the only land bridge between Asia and Africa and also the two seas, the Mediterranean and the Red sea.
  • Traditional costumes and dances.
  • Dabke, is a modern Levantine Arab folk circle dance of possible Canaanite or Phoenician origin. It is performed in Lebanon, Jordan, Iraq, Syria, Palestine and Northern Saudi Arabia.
  • Dabke combines circle dance and line dancing and is widely performed at weddings and other joyous occasions. The line forms from right to left. The leader of the dabke heads the line, alternating between facing the audience and the other dancers
  • Climate and land forms in Palestine.
  • Briefly, Palestine has a temperate, Mediterranean climate. The rainy season in Palestine is between November and April. Winter can get rather cold and wet. Southern areas can get uncomfortably hot during the summer months.
  • Palestine has many Landforms such as: Rivers, Mountains, Seas, Caves, valleys, lakes... etc,
  • Some interesting info about Jericho city which is also a valley and called the city of palms, it spreads out on the west side of the Jordan River at 825 Feet below sea level. It's considered the lowest city in the whole world.
  • Palestine also has the Dead sea which surface and shores is 429 meters (1,407 ft.) below sea level, It's Earth's lowest elevation on land, it's also 9.6 times as salty as a normal ocean which means that you can't swim in it for more than like 100 minutes or you will get burned.
  • Traditional dishes.
  • Mansaf - Lamb cooked in a sauce of fermented dried yogurt and served with rice or bulgur
  • Maqluba - An "upside-down" dish, made with fried vegetables, meat (chicken/lamb) and rice
  • Musakhan - Large taboon bread topped with sumac, onions and pepper
  • Ruz wa Lahme ma' Laban - Mix of rice and lamb topped with a mildly spicy yogurt

  • The flag, National Anthem and well known tradition wearings.
  • The National Anthem is called: Feda'i
  • It means I'll Sacrifice My life for the nation
  • The koffiyeh: it was traditionally worn by Palestinian farmers, then it became worn by Palestinian men of any rank and became a symbol of Palestinian nationalism during the Arab Revolt of the 1930s.
  • The colors of the Flag has some meanings, the red color represents blood we sacrifice for our nation, the black color means the injustice, oppression and sadness that we suffer from, the white color refers to peace, love and happiness and the green color means goodness, prosperity and hope.
