Weather and Climate:
The Tropical Rainforest Biome
Overview:
The rainforest is a dense and diverse forest in a tropical are that gets a lot of rain.
Rainforests tend to be hot, moist, and rainy all year. Due to being near the equator the weather stays relatively constant.
It is made of several layers:
-Undergrowth (~15ft)
-Understory (~55ft)
-Canopy (~95ft)
-Emergent (~125ft)
Biotic Factors:
Rainforests can be found around the equator because they are exposed to the sun year round.
Examples:
The soil is very frequently reused and recycled due to the decomposition of organic matter into the earth.
Plants - Plants have to adapt to get sunlight in the dense, layered environment. Some must have larger leaves, some climb up trees to get closer to the sun.
Animals - Adapt to live in the forest. Some use camouflage, some adapt to climb or swim.
Inhabitants:
The tropical rainforest is home to more species than all the other biomes combined. There are nearly 10 million different species living in rainforests.
Abiotic Factors:
Predators
Producers
Herbivores
Cats (Leopards, tigers, panthers etc.)
The weather is mostly constant all year and the soil is lacking in nutrients due to its constant recycling.
