"For me, one of the most important parts as a teacher is the privilege of getting to know my students. I believe that it is easy to believe the “single story” of teenage life by pigeon-holing my students as “being teenagers” and painting them with the same brush, so to speak. However, the reality is that they all come from very different experiences and if they are willing to share these experiences with me, I can use this information to inform my practices and include their interests or I can just listen and support them through difficult times. Each student carries their own story and I learn more from their struggles and perseverance than I thought I would as a teacher.
The integration of theory and practice has been a very rewarding learning experience for me.
As I go forward in the M.Ed program and my teaching career, I will integrate more of my studies, find ways to support students and continue to facilitate learning.
